Has an excellent opportunity for a Gastroenterology Nurse Practioner to work at the Brooke Army Medical Center on Ft. Sam Houson.
This position is being offered with a highly competitive compensation package as an independent contractor to include fully paid malpractice insurance, CME, relocation, lucrative sign on bonus and paid time off. This is an outpatient position with no weekends or call. Also no federal holidays required.
Examines patients and performs initial patient work-up and assessment of patients' care and treatment; and determines the need for and orders laboratory tests, X-rays and other diagnostic tests; interprets the total medical evidence, incorporating information into an accurate diagnosis or appraisal; and institutes proper treatment and patient care.
Extracts or works with patients' body fluids or tissues; prepares patient specimens for examination, performs specialized or non-routine tests on body fluids or tissue samples, or confirms patients' test results.
Diagnoses disease, illness, disorder or injury; institutes treatment of patients; and seeks the advice of appropriate Gastroenterology physicians for more serious or uncommon conditions.
Prescribes for and treats a variety of diseases, disorders and injuries; treats patients returning for routine or directed follow-up and treatment of chronic illnesses previously documented in patients' medical records; writes routine orders on outpatients; perform medical histories.
Provides a full range of emergency services or crises interventions in the absence of the physician, including lifesaving emergency procedures in order to stabilize a patient within the scope of practice and approved protocols.
Must be able to define unknown conditions and resolve critical problems.
Documents on outpatient and inpatient records histories, physical exams, laboratory and x-ray data, assessments, diagnostic and therapeutic plans, patient progress, consultations, procedure reports, etc.
The Nurse Practitioner shall have sufficient experience to be able to perform tasks to include, but not limited to, the following: Provide consultation on referrals by Primary Care Managers.
Consult with consultants as appropriate.
The Nurse Practitioner will be responsible for seeing patients to discuss findings, need for follow-up care, and timing of the next GI procedure or appointment.
Provide medical advice over the telephone and enter summary of Telephone Consultation conversation into CHCS/AHLTA or other Electronic Health Record system in order to capture workload data.
Obtain appropriate history, physical, assessment and plan in a timely and appropriate manner on each patient and develop treatment plan.
Responsible for completion of all required documentation and closing encounters within AHLTA/CHCS 72 hours.
Utilize, coordinate, and professional interact with paraprofessional staff as appropriate.
Preliminarily interpret radiographs; discriminates between normal and abnormal findings to recognize early stages of serious physical problems.
Writes prescriptions, orders the administration of medications, dispenses medications and prescribed controlled substance in accordance with approved treatment protocols.
Records entries into patient’s charts including progress notes, treatment rendered, tests or procedures ordered, and notations of prescriptions or orders, and drugs dispensed or administered in accordance with approved protocols.. Provides surveillance of adherence to medical practices and procedures to stabilize chronically ill patients; adjusts regimens within established protocols recognizing when to refer
Provides consultation, teaching, and coordination of all patients and their family members regarding treatment, medical care, and the need to see the GI Physician prior to a sedated examination by the Physician.
Coordinates with Patient's physicians' findings and diagnoses, laboratory results follow-up treatment plan or the effect of medications prescribed in accordance with approved protocols.
Provides primary care and preventive services to healthy individuals, including guidance in common illnesses, accidents, alternative drug usage, etc. Evaluates the total health care needs of patients and develops plans to meet patients' needs.
Qualified candidate must have graduated from an accredited NP program, have an active unrestricted license in any of the 50 states, ANCC certification as a nurse practitioner, and must have a minimum of one year experience working as a Gastro NP. BLS and ACLS certification from the American Heart Association also required. Due to Government Contract Guidelines, U.S. Citizenship required.
